Lo, the Lore of Avastars: How Humanity Took Hold of the Stars!
A Group of Builders Came Together, Determined to Extend Humanity for Millennia to Come ...
In the 1950s, a group of extremely gifted friends dropped out of university with a shared mission: to save humanity from earthful doom. The students-turned-builders settled on a plan: they’d do whatever it took to lead a small expedition of pioneers into the stars in search of a second home for mankind.
The students’ names were Gillian, Zhyrgal, Lucky, Islay, and Neda, and they quickly sold all their possessions and leaned on every loved one possible to raise the funds to buy a plot of land in the heart of the Mojave Desert.
Meet Gillian: one of the biggest badasses in all of history!
On that plot, the “Avastars Collective” — self-dubbed in honor of these avant-garde stars building toward the stars — built the group’s first research and development center, Genesis. The structure was modest at first, but it rapidly swelled with new facilities as the Avastars selectively recruited some of their brightest friends and colleagues to join their sojourn efforts in the desert.
So the Avastars Collective became Avastars Corp. And once the organization and its Genesis center had become sufficiently large, the stakeholders voted to cut off most ties with outsiders until post-launch. Teleporters would be left behind once the expedition was guaranteed, but the mission needed to be unimpeded by unnecessary influences if it was to be successful early on. Those involved took solace in each other and their important work continued.
Of the 100s of plans proposed for the Avastar expedition, the 721st, which called for a uniquely designed seeder ship replete with AI, 3D printers, cryopods, teleporters, and bio-modification and life-extension technologies, was ultimately selected. And then the real building began.
Those years turned into decades, and the dream became real. By the start of the 1980s and in isolation, the Avastars geniuses had already achieved nearly all of the needed tech breakthroughs to start the organization’s state-of-the-art seeder vessel, now memorialized as Genesis 721, on its maiden voyage.
Launch day was set for March 30th, 1984, in honor of the day Amelia Earhart set off for her solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. The Avastars were now facing their own ocean, yet it was one of endless space rather than water. A handful of folks backed out as the expedition neared, but the some 200 experts who remained were as ready as they’d ever be to build a brave new world somewhere out in the vast expanse above.
As a testament to the abilities of the Avastars, Genesis 721 ended up taking off without a hitch. And the mission’s originators — Gillian, Zhyrgal, Lucky, Islay, and Neda — were now the expedition’s commanders. With their aging suspended and bodies now heavily modified, the vessel’s entire crew went into cryo sleep in order to safely wait out the long search to come for another suitable planet.
More than 30 years later, the seeder ship’s onboard AI, Venus, awoke the commanders: land ahoy! A habitable world had been discovered, which the expedition immediately named Planet Avastars. A scout team was sent down to explore, and while the planet had some inhospitable regions, it was certainly suitable to begin colonization and terraforming efforts. The mission to extend humanity had triumphed!
After some early homesteading efforts, a message was relayed back to earth to turn on their dormant teleporters. Now the task at hand was to build a full-blown colony, so Avastars Corp deployed teams of vetters to start selecting the most viable earthling applicants to become modified colonizers on Planet Avastars.
After the first few applicants arrived in-world, teeming community hubs sprouted up in new urban centers like Cryptovoxels, Decentraland, Somnium Space, and The Sandbox. To overcome the challenges of the planet’s worldbuilding chores, the pioneering residents of Planet Avastars filled their free time at these centers with games, art, and inventions per their inexhaustible spirits.
And so a second human world began. Yet the incredible story of these Avastars was only just beginning, and the tremendous adventures ahead were entirely in their hands … 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
